About Historic Amvets Post II
For over sixty years, historic AMVETS Post II has served American veterans and the citizens of California. Chartered at the end of WWII, AMVETS Post II was formed by a group of dedicated veterans who despite facing adversity, insisted on creating a network of support and bold advocacy for veterans, young and old, who had served in all branches of the military and in all eras.
Through the years, members of our organization -- led by veterans like Pete Valdez, Sr., Kenneth Hahn, Sr., Syd Kronenthal, Albert Vera, Ray Delgado, Ron Stewart, the Juarez Family and countless others from its current 350 life members -- have maintained an extraordinary dedication to philanthropy and civic affairs in Culver City, throughout Los Angeles County and the state of California.
Headquartered in the historic AMVETS Post II building in Culver City since the mid-1960s, AMVETS Post II took over the administration of the landmark structure in the following years. Since that time, our membership has shouldered the cost of maintaining the unique building and property by contributing thousands of volunteer man-hours and dollars to the effort.
While never losing sight of our original mission, our membership has simultaneously been at work assisting individual veterans as they transition to civilian life, continue their educations, begin careers and build their families.
Every day AMVETS Post II works to advocate and provide for veterans in a variety ways. This includes contributing volunteer work at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center, ensuring that homeless veterans are brought off the streets and placed in transitional housing and providing Color Guard Details for veteran events and military funerals throughout Southern California.
Our members also work actively with public officials at every level of government to ensure veterans receive the benefits they earned. While advocating for individual veterans is an integral part of our mission, in many instances throughout our history, the members of AMVETS Post II have taken the lead in challenging governmental organizations like the Department of Veterans Affairs on issues such as land use and resource allocation at local VA medical facilities to ensure that the care veterans deserve is delivered.
In addition to our work outside of the post, AMVETS Post II sponsors numerous events at our headquarters. Along with hosting veterans from the nearby West LA VAMC at the annual Christmas Party, Post II Officers Installation Dinner and Super Bowl Sunday party, the membership hosts numerous events large and small -- including our monthly meetings on the third Saturday of each month.
As we move forward for the next 60 years, the members of Historic AMVETS Post II wish to thank the City of Culver City for the opportunity to work with them in a wonderful city with a rich history of providing for veterans and to all veterans we say, “Welcome Home.”
